Moebius Syndrome Awareness Day

Today was Moebius Syndrome Awareness Day. Moebius Syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that is present at birth and affects the 6th and 7th cranial nerves. Our classmate, Olivia, talked to the 3rd grade today about her life story. She was joined by her mother and cheering section of family. Olivia was a natural as she spoke to us about her beginning hurdles and then triumphs with this syndrome. We love you Olivia and are your biggest fans!

Recognizing Coins

This is a video I have shown my class this week from SchoolTube, which is similar to YouTube. I love this website because it provides educational videos to students in a safe manner. The children really love this song because it is helping them to remember the important details on the head and tail side of coins, and most importantly…the video is kid-friendly! Now the children can play it as much as they want to at home!

Rounding

Our class has begun learning about rounding numbers this week. Just like with subtraction, we are using a fun rhyme to guide us through the steps of successfully rounding numbers. Be sure to visit  O’Malley’s Podcasts to download and print out the rhyme at home. You can also print out a handy rounding chart. Try to see if your child can teach YOU what each step involves. You’ll be very impressed!

Unit 5 Vocabulary

Our vocabulary words for the story Roberto Clemente are : pronounced, stands, fans, score, league, slammed, polish, and style. Be sure to have your child impress you by giving the definition for each one!

Coloring Contest Winner

Congratulations to Audrey who was one of several winners of the Gregg County Coloring Contest that promoted prevention of forest fires. Remember what Smokey the Bear says- “Only YOU can prevent forest fires.”

Thanksgiving

Please note that we will be having an early dismissal on Tuesday, November 22 at 11:30. There will be no school the rest of that week in honor of Thanksgiving. We will be accepting canned goods and nonperishable items for the food pantry until Tuesday. Thank you to all who have already donated and for those who plan on doing so. What a wonderful way to show our students that it is in giving that we also receive.

Graphs

Our class is learning about pictographs, line graphs, and bar graphs. Please help us construct our own graphs by taking our polls. Thanks for helping us in the learning process!
